When it comes to wedding cakes, there are seemingly as many different styles, options, and flavor combinations as there are love stories. From towering, fussy cakes that’ll stop you in your tracks to simpler, more unassuming cakes that exude a quiet elegance (and everything in between), you really have your pick of designs when it comes to the dessert you’ll serve on your special day.

If you love a minimalist wedding cake (or just think it might be a good choice for your own wedding cake), read on to learn more about why we love them too—and to get a little inspiration for your own simple cake.

Here’s Why We Love a Minimalist Wedding Cake

While we love a big, intricately designed cake as much as the next person, there’s something so lovely about a refined, minimalist wedding cake too. Featuring clean lines, subtle textural elements, and simple decorations used sparingly, these sweet little cakes are perfect for couples who want their cake to blend into the overall vibe of their wedding day—not steal the show.

Our Favorite Simple Wedding Cake Ideas

These classic wedding cake ideas are the perfect way to celebrate a bit more simply:

Single-Tier with Sharp Edges

A super simple, clean round or square cake with sharp buttercream edges will just never get old. Give it a little something extra by placing it on top of a stunning cake stand or topping it off with a single fresh bloom.

Textured Buttercream & Tone-on-Tone Details

Adding a little subtle texture to the buttercream on top of your cake is a chic, but refined way to add a little interest to your cake. Consider swoopy swirls, romantic ruffles, or even a stucco-like pattern. Keep the effect minimalist by using all-white or ivory tones.

Fresh Florals or Greenery

Elegant fresh florals and greenery are always a great way to top off your minimalist cake. Consider an olive branch, a bit of eucalyptus, peonies, or whatever you love. Just make sure you’re removing anything that’s not edible before cutting and serving your cake.

A Monochromatic Look

Cute minimalist cake designs in shades of blush, sage, dusty blue, soft gray, ivory, or another hue you happen to love are easy ways to make a statement without stealing all of the attention. Add some gold accents for a little something extra.

Minimal Typography

Add a simple, sweet message, your initials, a monogram, or your wedding date to your cake for an elegant, personalized, but still minimalist look.

The "White Wedding" and The “Happy Anni”

Local? Our White Wedding and Happy Anni cakes from our Cake Shop are minimalist dreams for small celebrations, elopements, or bridal showers. They’re semi-custom, so you can choose the flavors and fillings, as well as personalize some of the decoration, but they have a faster turnaround time than fully custom wedding cake designs. Both feature simple white icing and minimal text.
